We greatly appreciate the donations from individuals and organizations who give to United Way or directly to Friendly House. This support enables us to continue our ongoing tradition of helping the children of our community.
Our programs vary throughout the year and are briefly described below. Membership is required and any additional fee is noted in the program description. If there is any activity or class you would like to see offered, please bring it to our attention. Your input in future programming is both welcomed and encouraged.
AFTERSCHOOL/SUMMER FUN PROGRAM
The Friendly House Afterschool Program is for any child in the area in grades K-6 and runs from 3-6pm, Monday through Friday.
Children are picked up from select Mansfield City Schools (Malanar, Newman, Prospect and Sherman) and are brought to the Friendly House. Upon arrival they are given a hot, nutritious meal and then break off in to various activities including: arts and crafts, computer lab, game room, gym, outdoor play. Friendly House also has a Big Brother/Big Sister Program and Girl Scouts once a week.
The Summer Fun Program is a continuation of the Afterschool Program and runs for 9 weeks during the summer. Participants not only enjoy similar activities as the Afterschool Program, but may also take field trips to the movies, library, local parks or gardens, and water parks.
Our Pre-School Program is licensed by the State of Ohio to care for children ages 3 to 6. The center is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m-6:00 p.m. Breakfast, a nutritious lunch and afternoon snack are provided. Children participate in preschool classes as well as indoor/outdoor play and swimming lessons. Field trips are also scheduled. Fees vary according to the number of children attending and whether it is a one or two parent home. For more information about the Preschool, please call 419-522-5570.
The Evening Program is designed for teens in grades 7-12. Teens can come to the Friendly House and have a safe and clean environment to play in the gym, game room or computer lab.
Fundamental and advanced boxing skills are conducted in organized classes. Participants must be 8 years of age or older. A release form must be completed by the parent and parent must provide thier own transportation.
The Friendly House Basketball League is one of the most competitive youth leagues in the area. The league is open to boys and girls in 4th through 6th grade. Regular season games usually begin the first week of November and continue through February, wrapping up the first week or March. There is also a Christmas and Spring Tournament.
HAPPY HOLLOW DAY CAMP
The Day Camp runs for nine weeks during the summer. Hours are from 7:00 a.m to 5:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. Call Friendly House for a camp brochure. Registration for Happy Hollow will begin in the spring. Financial assistance is available. FEE CHARGED
HIDDEN HOLLOW RESIDENT CAMP
Boys and girls, ages 8-15, may attend one or more weeks of camp during the summer. Activities include horsemanship, tennis, basketball, arts and crafts, archery, dramatics, etc. Singing and stories around the campfire are part of the camp tradition. FEE CHARGED. Friendly House offers lap swimming & open swims for a fee plus membership. Swimming exercise classes for Seniors are offered twice a week with a fee charged.
Our staff of experienced Water Safety Instructors will give your child an enjoyable learning experience and a positive attitude toward water safety. All classes are taught by American Red Cross trained instructors. Classes are scheduled throughout the year. Fee includes membership.
