On July 14th, 2018 at approximately 12:15pm, the horse barn at Hidden Hollow Camp burned to the ground. No campers, staff or horses were injured during the fire, but it was so hot it melted the siding from the Camp Director’s house across the drive. We are thankful that Friendly House is fully covered for the replacement of the horse barn and all of the destroyed contents. Plans by Friendly House are underway to fully replace this important part of the Hidden Hollow infrastructure.
Fortunately at the time of the fire, only HHC staff were remaining on site. When the Fire Department arrived, they blocked the only entrance into camp and no one was able to enter or leave. If this fire had occurred while campers were still on site, there would have been no way to assure parents that their children were safe on the other side or to get everyone out. This is a situation that we do not want to be in again.
Hidden Hollow Camp needs a secondary emergency exit constructed – and Friendly House needs the community’s help NOW! The Friendly House, along with the support of the TPK Group, a 100% volunteer organization made up of former staff of Friendly House and Hidden Hollow Camp, would like to raise $75,000. All donations are accepted – however we are in need of some very generous people or organizations who are able to help fund this necessary and life saving project. All funds will be used to construct this new exit road and improve safety throughout the camp. All donations are tax deductible.
There are many ways to donate to this project.
1. CHECK OR MONEY ORDER: Donors can send a check or money order directly to Friendly House, with “Second Exit Project” in the memo. All checks/MO’s should be made out to the Friendly House. By sending a check or money order, 100% of your donation goes to Friendly House.
2. PAYPAL: You can donate via PayPal by clicking here. Please insert the special instructions “Second Exit Project”. As a reminder, PayPal will keep 3% of every donation made to Friendly House for processing and online fees.
Because of you – our community, we will make a difference and help Friendly House and Hidden Hollow Camp remain the great place that it will always be – a great safe place for kids to be kids. For additional information – please contact Terry Conard or Brianna Sammataro at Friendly House, or Greg Mead, main contact for the TPK Group.
